Farmworks is an urban agriculture project that will be the first facility of its kind in the world. It will include hatcheries and growout tanks for two fish species, indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse plant production, job training, public education and community outreach. The project will be housed in several existing buildings in an industrial area along the north riverfront in St. Louis.
A bio-digester will be built on site and provide power to the facility. Part of the indoor plant growing system will use waste from fish tanks as fertilizer. Rainwater will be harvested and purified for fish tanks.
