Why we love it: When Jeff Joffray purchased the home out of foreclosure, nine years ago, he decided to take it back to its original glory. “It was a real eyesore,” he says, recalling the combination redbrick–and–yellow stucco exterior and the worn green awnings above the windows. The landscaping was equally unattractive. A thicket of overgrown bushes and trees ruled the property, obscuring the view into the neighboring yard. But that’s all in the past now: Much about this house—which was originally built in 1937 for the Rothschild family—is new, including a sunroom, the wrought-iron balcony above the front door, and 64 rosebushes planted throughout the property. “I enjoy being outside,” says Joffray, who spent part of his childhood in Australia. “People stop me in the grocery store and ask if I’m that same guy who’s always working in the yard.”
